The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) in the U.S. found that babies who were born towards the end of the academic year is likely to lag behind his friends at the age of seven years, regardless of social background. Children are the youngest in the academic year had 20 percent greater likelihood lectures at prestigious universities as compared with children born in September. But they are less likely to be class president or the president of the club and have low confidence in academic ability.
"We found evidence of a large and significant differences between children born in August and September in terms of cognitive ability, whether measured using national achievement test or the alternative indicators such as the British Ability Scales," said researcher managed as quoted by FoxNews on Tuesday (2/11/2011 ).
"The gap is particularly evident when considering the reports of the teachers about the achievements of these children, especially the teachers were also present when considering the differences in socio-emotional development and involvement in various risk behaviors," added the researchers.
The study, fronted Claire Crawford, Lorraine Dearden and Ellen Greaves Child confirms that children born in August is more likely to report feeling sad or experience bullying at his young age than children born in September.
IFS says that the study is intended to find ways to overcome the weaknesses of the youngest member of the peer group. Researchers also plan to conduct additional research on how to resolve these imbalances.
