Report prepared Institute of Medicine indicate factors that are proven and are not shown to increase cancer risk such as:
1. Shown to increase breast cancer risk
The combination of estrogen and progestin hormone therapy, being overweight after menopause, alcohol consumption and radiation caused by many medical tests, especially during childhood.
Two or three abdominal CT scan to make the body exposed to radiation as much as that received by atomic bomb survivors. But mammograms only produce less radiation so it does not have to be avoided. Contraceptive pills also slightly increase breast cancer risk for consumption.
2. Not proven to increase breast cancer risk
Hair dyes and the type of radiation from cell phones, microwaves and electronic gadgets.
3. Might increase the risk of breast cancer
Smoking, passive smoking, employees who work night shifts, exposure to benzene and some other chemicals or inhaling car fumes.
Materials bisphenol A or known as BPA and plastic materials can affect certain other estrogens, fuel breast cancer. However, experiments to prove it was just done in animal and laboratory tests, and therefore has not considered dangerous enough.
"There is a great desire to blame someone or something for the many cases of breast cancer," said Dr.. Eric Winer, a cancer specialist at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston as reported by Foxnews.com, Thursday (08/12/2011).
"But developing breast cancer for many years, so we need a better way to learn what's acceptable exposure throughout the life of women, including when they are very young," says lead researcher, Irva Hertz-Picciotto, head of the division of environmental and occupational health in University of California, Davis.
