Doctors Surgery Become Organ Transplant Donors

News Health Articles - Doctors Surgery Become Organ Transplant Donors. A doctor at a famous hospital in the UK so the first transplant surgeons in the world to be organ donors. Certainly not for any patient, because the kidneys organ will be given to his own mother.

Dr. Asim Syed (32 years) has conducted more than 100 operations in London Hammersmith Hospital, which is the busiest transplant unit in the country. But he never imagined that one day he too would be a donor. It is even a first place in the world, when a surgeon also contribute to organ transplantation.

Dr. Syed decided to become organ donors when told that his mother Dilshad (64 years), which has been undergoing dialysis (dialysis for renal failure patients), will probably die within a few months unless he gets a new kidney.

Because of fear, the surgeon brings his mother to London from his home in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, to undergo hospital treatment.

Just a few hours after donating his own kidney, Dr. Syed finds himself in the recovery room bed next to his mother and two other patients who had just operated.

"When I woke up after operation, Asim was beside my bed and the first word that he said 'Mom, now all the mother's concern was over," said Syed Dilshad, as reported by Dailymail, Thursday (22/12/2011).

Other family members also wanted to donate his kidney to Dilshad, unfortunately there is no suitable or healthy enough to be a donor.

Kidney Dr. Syed is suitable for his mother's body, but that does not mean there is no problem. Tests showed that the blood type Dr. Syed is not the same as her mother, so the only way to still be able to donate a kidney is a special blood washing process to remove antibodies that can be rejected for the kidneys.

He consulted with colleagues about this blood-laundering, but they are reluctant to use your method because the risk of rejection is still too high.

Dr. Syed and his mother then advised to consider new ways for donors and recipients, which disebur with organ-paired or pooled donation. In this way, prospective donors are not suitable to find the right match through a chain of anonymous donors. Dr. Syed donate kidneys to strangers and other donors in the chain it will be successful donor for his mother.

Chain of three transplants involving three donors and three recipients from three transplant centers, occurring simultaneously on July 31 with Dr. Syed in the kidney is given to recipients in the Midlands and his mother received a kidney from someone in the south of England.

Now the mother and the child is recovering, Dr. Syed even been back to work. Dilshad lived with her son for several months while continuing its progress monitored by the hospital.

"I did what people do when they see the suffering that relative, but it's not as simple as we expected. Being a donor is the only way to ensure mothers will get a transplant quickly. While I can not help the mother directly, but by agreeing to be part of a chain of transplants, all help each other, "explains Dr. Syed.

Dr. Syed's father and also husband of Dilshad, Dr. fantastical (69 years), has become a general practitioner in Doncaster for 36 years. Families are reluctant to let Dr. Syed actually become donors, considering his young age. But other family members are not fit to become a donor.

"My wife really need a transplant and Asim realize that being on dialysis is not the best choice. It's far from ideal and many patients find quite difficult to lead a normal life," explains Dr. fantastical.
