This study examined 387 adolescents aged 10-13 years who were recruited from public schools in Philadelphia. It is published in the Journal of Adolescent Health



The disciples were asked to complete questionnaires that included two questions about the thinking about hurting yourself or suicide.
A total of 23 boys (5.9 percent) answered positive on at least one of the questions.

Symptoms of depression, sleep disorders, impulsive and aggressive behavior were more likely to be experienced by adolescents who answered 'Yes' compared to teens who answered 'No' to the questions in the questionnaire. In addition, teens who answered positively is also admitted to risky behaviors like drug use, gambling, and promiscuity.

Many of the problems teenagers was not known by the caregiver. It was discovered by researchers. While parents of children who feel suicidal behavior disorders experienced by children or medical problems the same as those enjoyed by parents of children who do not have suicidal ideation.

"Cases like this need to be examined when the children began to show signs of warning. The emergence of suicidal ideation increases during adolescence. There are data that children aged 6 years died from suicide," said the researcher, Matthew Wintersteen, PhD, of the department psychiatry and human behavior at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

Center for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention / CDC) says that suicide is the fourth leading cause of death in children aged 10-13 years in 1999-2007.

Lanny Berman, Ph.D., executive director of the American Association of Suicidology (AAS) as reported by MedicalNewsToday.com, Monday (12/19/2011) revealed, "The problem behavior is often a risk factor for suicidal behavior. AAS notes that the 'suicidal ideation' is one of the ten warning signs of suicide, along with substance abuse and anxiety as well as launch the Youth Suicide Prevention Center in 2010.
