Pain Relief Drug Abuse Cause Many Deaths

Reliever medicine or pain relievers often becomes an adult friend to relieve pain in the body. Unfortunately, people often become dependent on pain relieving drugs and had overdosed to cause death.

According to a new report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), prescription pain relievers (painkiller) which does not exactly have mnyebabkan death of 15,000 people in the United States each year.

"While drug opioid-based pain relievers are prescribed by doctors has caused the death of as many as 40 people per day." It can already be categorized as an epidemic, "said CDC Director Dr.. Thomas Frieden as reported from CNNHealth, Wednesday (11/2/2011 ).



Deaths from overdose of the painkiller overdose deaths now exceed the number of heroin and cocaine combined. "Deaths due to abuse of prescription painkillers has caused the death of 3-fold more since 1999," said Gil Kerlikowske, director of National Drug Control Policy.

According to data published on 1 November 2011 prescription painkiller oxycodone is often abused (Oxycotin), methadone or hydrocodone (Vicodin).

But there are many brands who also abused other drugs, among others:
1. Oxycodone formulations: including brand Oxyfast, Percolone, and Roxicodone
2. Oxycodone in combination with other drugs: including brand Endocet, Percocet, Percodan, and Xolox
3. Hydrocodone: Lortab, including brand, Tussionex, and Vanacet

Drug abuse is more common in men than in women, whites more than other races, more in rural than in urban environments, and more people of middle-aged than in young and elderly.

CDC recommends that doctors should also monitor their patients so as not to abuse these drugs. So it can prevent many people from drug addiction.

Doctors are also advised to prescribe painkillers opioid-based only if necessary. Kerlikowske said that, the American government has set a goal of reducing the abuse of prescription drugs by 15 percent in 2015.
