Ethionamide, Combination Drugs for Tuberculosis

Ethionamide is used with other medicines to treat tuberculosis (TB). Ethionamide can also be used for other problems as determined by your doctor.

To assist full TB treatment, patients should keep taking this medicine for the full treatment time, even if the patient had begun to feel better.

It is most important that patients taking these drugs should be given appropriate doses of a doctor. Ethionamide can be obtained only by prescription. The drug is available in tablet dosage forms.

Ethionamide inhibit the synthesis of peptides. The drug is active against mycobacteria species. Have bacteriostatic properties against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is also active against some bacteria, such as M. atypical, M. and several strains of M. kansasii leprae avium complex.

contraindications

1. Hypersensitivitas to this drug
2. Severe liver disease
3. porphyria

dose

15-20 mg / kg / day
Max dose: 1 g / day

Side Effects

See a doctor immediately in case one of the following side effects:
1. Clumsiness or loss of balance
2. confusion
3. mental depression
4. Changes in mood or mental changes
5. Numbness or numbness, tingling, burning or pain in hands and feet
6. Yellowish eyes or skin
