News Health Articles - Helping Others Powerful Lighten Depression. Doing something nice for someone else will make people feel good and think positively. Research also has shown that doing a good deed has been scientifically proven to be therapeutic in treating mood disorders and depression.

Activities such as helping someone carry groceries, writing thank you, o even count for the things to be thankful , can serve as low cost effective treatment for depression.

"This seems really trivial, and we then will feel good for 10 minutes. But for people with depression, it is not trivial at all. The depression need to increase positive emotions in his life, even for a minute" said Sonja Lyubomirsky, professor of psychology at the University of California, Riverside.

After closely reviewing the various studies on the therapeutic benefit of positive emotions, Lyubomirsky and her colleagues found extensive evidence to support the idea that people with a tendency toward depression can help themselves by helping others or used to doing positive things in life.

These low cost treatment will have profound implications. 1. Being good to others
2. Expressing gratitude
3. Thinking optimistically
4. Pondering the good things in life

"The most important aspect in the positive emotion. The most significant characteristic of depression is the absence of positive emotions, solitude and emptiness. Being positive is not only can improve mood, but also can lead to an increase of faith", says Lyubomirsky.

Dr. Michele Riba, past president of the American Psychiatric Association as well as professor of psychiatry and director of the Depression Center at the University of Michigan agree that positive thinking can have dramatic effects for the psychological welfare of the community.

"There are many studies that have been very well demonstrated that certain actions can positively impact lives. In general, people who help other people will stop focusing on the pain and worries himself and feels good about himself," said Riba as reported Health24.com, Wednesday (January 4, 2012).

Until now, researchers are still searching for the best way to apply the thinking and acting positively in helping to treat depression. "It takes constant effort to remind myself in doing good for others although I think it will become easier overtime. To vary the activity, do not fall into the habit," Lyubomirsky advice.

According to Lyubomirsky, if you want to get optimal results, you should think and act positively done in varies each day.
