Gemma Potter (23 years) repeatedly pregnant even though she had tried all types of contraceptives such as condoms, birth control pills, contraceptive spiral or IUD (intrauterine device), progesterone injections and implants.
Gemma and her husband Glenn Potter (27 years) now has three children, namely Shaun (4 years) Jessica (3 years) and Sophie (2 years), and 2 pregnancy failure.
Since there is no contraceptive that works on the body, Gemma was now pregnant again despite only having sex three times since last September. Potter couples are deliberately limiting sexual relations for fear of Gemma will become pregnant again.
"This has affected our sex life. I find it very difficult to have sex because I kept thinking what if later I was pregnant? You might think if the pregnancy will enable us to have sex, but I still feel worried. It really makes me ashamed and I was so desperate to try anything that could help. I know this is hard for Glenn, "explains Gemma Potter who came from Plymouth, Devon, England, as reported by Dailymail, Tuesday (20/12/2011).
She was taking birth control pills when they met her future husband in May 2006, but she was pregnant within 3 months later and gave birth to her son Shaun in March 2007. He returned taking birth control pills in May 2007 but in August was pregnant with her second child, Jessica, who was born in May 2008.
Four weeks after Jessica's birth, doctors suggested to use a contraceptive spiral (IUD) and told him that this type of contraception is most effective. But again, Gemma becoming pregnant in November 2008 even though it was she had a miscarriage at week 6.
She then tried the contraceptive injection given every 12 weeks, but then Sophie was born after the couple married in 2009. She finally decided to use an implant which is considered 99 percent effective. Unfortunately she was pregnant again but miscarried at 11 weeks. He eventually returned to use birth control pills, but in fact he is now 10 weeks pregnant.
"I love my kids, but I already do not want any more children. Unfortunately, contraception is not an option for us because it does not work on us," he explained.
She accused the doctors do not take serious action and refused his request to provide contraceptives actually work.
"I can not go out with friends or drink outside because I was constantly pregnant. I also completely missed at work. I struggle with my weight and it can be a real struggle," said Gemma.
He did not know how long he will continue to experience pregnancy. When thinking of many couples who tried various ways to get pregnant, she was sorry. But he is also concerned with the condition who can not stop pregnant.
"If I continue to have a child and our family could no longer take care of it again, maybe I would consider surrogacy (give the child to the couple or anyone else)," explains Gemma.
