Men Premature Babies More Suffer than women

News Health Articles - Men Premature Babies More Suffer than women. Infants born premature at this time has a much better chance of survival than a few years ago. However, premature baby boy seems to be more miserable than a premature baby girl despite medical advances developed rapidly.

Pregnancy usually lasts about 40 weeks. But babies born before 37 weeks are considered premature and born before the 34th week of early premature categorized. In the United States, about 3-4 percent of births are premature births.

"In this modern age, a baby boy still had a higher mortality rate and long-term neurological disorders," said the researcher, Alison Kent from the Canberra Hospital and Australian National University Medical School, as reported by Reuters on Friday (23/12/2011 ).

Uniquely, this gap disappears in babies born after week 27 or all 28 of pregnancy. But researchers say that this pattern remains to be interpreted with caution.

The earlier a baby is born, the greater the risk of death or long-term health problems. But that is not so obvious is, why preterm birth is more dangerous for male babies than in babies of women?

"The Y chromosome that determines male gender also affect certain health factors. For example, male fetuses are miscarried more than female fetuses. There is also evidence that there are gender differences in how the brain responds to nerve injury may explain the difference. Alternatively, it could be due to differences in the response of the heart and circulatory system in young men and women, "said Kent.

Kent explained that the problems in the heart and circulatory system is more commonly experienced by babies born premature.

If the baby boys are less able to handle the problem, this may help explain why the gender gap is seen in very premature births, but not visible at birth at week 27 or 28.

The findings, published in the journal Pediatrics found that more than 2,000 male babies born very preterm (born at 28 weeks gestation or earlier) had a survival rate lower and tend to have long-term neurological disorders such as blindness, deafness or cerebral palsy (paralysis of the brain).

From 1394 the boys from 2500's of infants studied, 23 percent of them died in hospital compared with 19 percent of baby girls.

Baby boys who are very premature are also experiencing 'functional disability' is more severe when she was three years old, nearly as much as 20 percent. While the baby girl, only 12 percent who experienced the same thing.
