In Dentists Clinic People Can Know His Health Condition

News Health Articles - In Dentists Clinic People Can Know His Health Condition. From the mouth and teeth diseases a person can be known. So no wonder so many patients in the U.S. who prefer a visit to the dentist to check their health. In addition, a medical examination at the dentist's office is also faster and simpler.

A recent study showed that 20 million Americans visit the dentist every year, but did not visit the public health care providers.

These findings suggest that the dental clinic is considered as a good place to check the patient's chronic health problems. By giving the patient a few questions or medical exam, your dentist can identify the risk of diseases such as diabetes quickly.

"The clinic dentist can be an excellent place to identify the disease. Your dentist can then refer patients to primary care providers for further examination," said Shiela Strauss, a professor at New York University College of Nursing as reported myhealthnewsdaily.com, Wednesday ( 12/21/2011).

In an article published the American Journal of Public Health, Strauss explained that he researched a number of consulting physicians in the U.S. while researching ways to detect cases of diabetes.

The American Diabetes Association estimates as many as 7 million Americans have undiagnosed diabetes and 79 million others have diabetes will have symptoms that will develop into diabetes if not treated.

Diabetics have a higher risk of gum disease. This makes Strauss thinks that diabetic patients will at least see a dentist to check his health.

Using data from the U.S. Department of Health & and in the U.S. National Health Survey of 2008 which gave questions about health care habits, Strauss and his team selected sub-sample of 31,262 adults and children.

Among the adults surveyed, a quarter of them did not meet primary care providers, but visiting the dentist's office. In children, the same percentage did not meet primary care providers, but one-third see a dentist.

That means that as many as 7 million children and 13 million adults in the U.S. only see a dentist only.

Most study participants had some type of health insurance, thus showing that the money is not a barrier. In addition to diabetes, dentists can also identify patients with obesity, high blood pressure, and substance abuse.

"It's not about the diagnosis. The medical examination can be done as simple as filling out questionnaires and dentists will recommend patients to see primary care nurse or doctor," said Strauss.

Examination of patients on chronic health problems at the dentist's office can detect the disease early and benefit public health.
