Hydrochlorotiazide, Drugs for Hypertension Control

News Health Articles - Hydrochlorotiazide, Drugs for Hypertension Control.

Description

Hydrochlorotiazide used alone or in conjunction with other medications to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Hypertension adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If there is continued for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure.
Hypertension may also increase the risk of heart attack. These problems may be less likely to occur if blood pressure can be controlled.

Hydrochlorotiazide also used to treat fluid retention (edema) caused by congestive heart failure, severe liver disease (cirrhosis), kidney disease, or treatment with steroid drugs or hormones. Hydrochlorotiazide is a thiazide diuretic. This medicine is used to help reduce the amount of water in the body by increasing urine flow. It can also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. These drugs are only available by prescription.
