Child's First Memories Can Happen Since Age 2 Years

News Health Articles - Child's First Memories Can Happen Since Age 2 Years. The Most adults suffer from childhood amnesia because he could not recall the infant or toddler they passed. But a new study suggests that children's first memories have been formed since the age of 2 years and was able to remember the unique event.

"We were interested to see the young child's memory because it can tell us about memory in general. Most of us can not remember anything as a baby memory, memory is only 3 or 4 years of age, when we have started to remember," said Fiona Jack, researchers study from the University of Otago in New Zealand, as reported by LiveScience, Friday (12/23/2011).

Most memory of childhood is a major life event that will be told as fact in adulthood. But many people who find it difficult to remember.

"There are some people who claim to remember things that happened at the age of 8 or 12 months. It's very difficult to know whether they actually tell the original memory or part of a reconstruction that is told parents or view photos on the album," explains Jack.

The study was conducted to determine how certain since the age of the children have started to develop a memory. The result, researchers found that children aged 2 to 3 years has been able to form the first memories and remember things interesting.

In the study, researchers designed a device 'magic' to attract the attention of the children in the study, called the 'Magic Box'. Respondents kids will put on the box, spin levers and a mini version of the toy will appear at the bottom with the accompaniment of the sound and lights. The research train 46 children with age range 27 to 51 months to be a respondent for 2 consecutive days.

On the third day, the children were asked again about the box and how to use it. The interviews for 3 days is asked again after 6 years later, when children aged 10 to 12 years.

Before mentioning 'Shrinking Magic Box', the researchers first showed the medal to the children that they receive after participating respondents and ask if they remember why they got it. Parents were also interviewed at that time.

The result, only 20 percent of children are able to recall the Magic Shrinking Box which they play six years ago, but pulled it did not stratified by age.

"Even the two children of the youngest respondents, who was then less than 3 years old can remember the magical tool with the good. 50 percent of adults can recall the game and how to use it," explains Jack.

Researchers then studied whether there are different personality traits in children are able to remember, such as language skills and memory abilities in general. But the researchers did not find any indication that may affect the child's memory.

"We did find that the average child who remembers the incident six years ago talked about it a lot more. That is, actively engaged in conversation can help the development of memory in general and about specific events," added Jack.
