News Health Articles - 6 Way Avoid Vagina Itchy. One complaint that many experienced by women is itching in the pubic or the surrounding areas. This of course can be disturbing, especially if the itching that arise can not be tolerated. What makes Miss V itch?

Itching in the vagina is a sense in the skin of the vagina and surrounding area (vulva) which usually leads to a desire to scratch the area. This condition sometimes makes a person difficult to concentrate.



Itching can be caused by a sexually transmitted disease or infection. But the itching that occurs during pregnancy is usually caused by hormonal changes that affect the pH of the vagina which can cause irritation topical.

Here are some things that being a common cause of itching in the vagina, as quoted from nlm.nih.gov, Monday (12/19/2011), namely:

1. Chemical irritants, such as from detergents, fabric softeners, vaginal sprays, ointments, contraceptive foam and gel lubricant.
2. Menopause, declining levels of the hormone estrogen causes thinning of the vaginal wall and less lubrication which trigger itching.
3. Stress, increase vaginal itching and make a person more susceptible to infection.
4. Fungal infections in the vagina, these infections can be caused by long-term use of antibiotics, birth control pills, pregnancy, menstruation, sexual intercourse, diabetes and a weakened immune system.
5. Vaginitis, which is the inflammation, itching, some discharge and odor arises which is usually caused by infections including sexually transmitted diseases.
6. Certain skin conditions that can affect the skin of the vulva.
7. Pinworm infection could enter the vagina.

If the itching that occurs does not cause lesions (sores) on the skin and cause no odor then it is not caused by infection. But if the itching does not subside within 4-6 weeks or accompanied by the smell then consult a doctor.

To prevent the occurrence of itching in the vagina and the surrounding area, there are several things you can do are:

1. Avoiding the use of colored tissue spray fragrance and women (douches)

2. Immediately replace wet clothes after a workout or swim

3. Cleaning the intimate area by wiping or washing from front to back (vagina to anus) after urinating or large

4. Consumption of yogurt containing live Lactobacillus acidophilus when taking antibiotics

5. Avoid underwear made from synthetic materials, and use cotton underwear or stockings of cotton crotch

6. Avoid scratching the itch if it arises because it will make things worse.
