RI Population Reaches 1 Billion in the Next 100 Years

Currently the population of Indonesia has reached 237 million more. With birth rates are currently estimated at 45-50 years of Indonesia's population doubled, or about 474 million people and reach 1 billion within the next 100 years.

"Population growth rate is now 1.49 percent per year, the total population in 45-50 years to 474 million people in 100 years to nearly 1 billion people," said Dr. Sudibyo Sekretatis Main BKKBN Alimoeso, MA in the workshop and outbound journalists and BKKBN at Home Jambuluwuk, Tapos, Ciawi, West Java, on Tuesday (11/01/2011).

Sudibyo said the population of this size can be a tremendous threat of food availability, as well as difficulties in meeting the basic needs of the population such as food, employment, infrastructure, health services and education.

In 2010 the population reached 237.6 million and exceeded the estimates that 'only' 234 million inhabitants. This population growth rate rose from 1.47 percent per year in 1990-2000 to 1.49 per cent per annum in the period 2000-2010. This means there is population growth of about 3-4 million jiwasetiap years or 10,000 babies are born every day.

"The birth of the poor families more than capable and educated family. This means that dependents are not only heavy a burden on society but also the government," he said.

Currently Indonesia is the fourth most populated country in the world after China, India and America. If this condition is not well controlled, there will be uncontrolled exploitation of nature. Demographic and environmental experts often use the term ecological suicide (suicide ecological) for this condition.

"People might get hurt because he committed suicide on the environment or environmental damage such as flooding or landslides, pollution levels rise" Sudibyo said.

Aware of the condition and problems of population and family planning programs, then the revitalization program on population and family planning have been proclaimed by the President to be things that could not negotiable.
