The reason high HIV transmission in Jakarta

Jakarta was the region with the highest HIV infection and AIDS in Indonesia. Here are the reasons why the capital of this country became the largest contributor to HIV and AIDS sufferers.

In addition, continued Rohana, approximately 500 thousand women married to men at high risk of HIV infection.

There are also recorded 61,000 men GWL (gays, transvestites and other sex), 24,000 women in Jakarta who work as sex workers and 11,000 are injecting drug users (IDUs).

"This is what causes high AIDS patients in Jakarta," said Rohana.

A large number of female sex workers (WPS) is also an important factor that makes the height of AIDS patients in Jakarta.

Causes of high transmission of STIs among female sex workers, namely:

Use of condoms by customers who have not been regularly
Weak role of WPS on the use of condoms as a prevention tool for infection from sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
The existence of drug resistance factors
Peer counseling (fellow cadres WPS) is less a role
WPS which often change places.


"IMS and ISR (infection of sexual reproduction) is known to facilitate HIV transmission 3 to 5 fold. And the IMS / ISR ulcerative increase the risk of HIV transmission to 300-fold," said Rohana.
