The results of these studies have been published in the Annals of Internal Medicine January 3, 2012.



"We found that there are several treatment options are right for neck pain. However, the problem is difficult to determine the need for proper care for patients. So the possible combinations of treatments may be more effective," said Gert Bronfort, from Wolfe Harris Center for Clinical Studies, Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, Minnesota as reported from MSNHealth, Tuesday (03/01/2012).

Neck pain is a very common problem occurs in many people. About three-quarters of adults experience neck pain at some point in his life. Neck pain can have a negative impact on quality of life.

Patients with neck pain should be evaluated to ensure there is no serious cause. This is especially true if the patient has a history of accidents, or if you have neurological symptoms, such as if you have pain that radiates down the arm.

Spinal manipulation is one type of treatment offered for neck pain. Therapy can be provided by chiropractors, physical therapists, osteopaths, and other health care providers.

The study has involved 272 people with ages between 18-65 years who experience neck pain. Experienced neck pain of unknown cause, such as trauma or a pinched nerve, and the patient was experiencing pain between 2-12 weeks when the study began.

At week 12, 82 percent of study participants who received spinal manipulation reported at least have experienced a 50 percent reduction in neck pain. While about 69 percent of participants who consume drugs and 77 percent of participants who did the exercises at home. At week 12, 32 percent of people who received spinal manipulation, reported feeling 100 percent reduction in pain, compared with 13 percent of participants who consume drugs and 30 percent do the exercises at home.

One year after the study, 27 percent of participants who received spinal manipulation to say that the pain was reduced 100 percent. While 17 percent of participants who consume drugs and 37 percent of participants who did the exercises at home.

"Each person can have different healing path different pathways. Research shows that, all three therapies for neck pain can be effective. Whatever therapy is chosen, in about 6-8 weeks, should begin to feel better. All procedures and risk of treatment should be considered by the patient, "said Dr. Victor Khabie, head of the department of surgery and sports medicine at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, New York.
