St. Ann's Hospital in London on Thursday (12.12.2011) and has opened the clinic for the stalker with the aim of preventing rape, sexual assault and murder. The opening of this clinic marks the transition to the British government in dealing with the stalker.
Not only prosecute and punish, the court will now have the option to refer the stalker to the clinic to receive treatment for mental health disorders. According to a BBC report on Monday (12/12/2011), this unique health center seems to be the first of its kind in the world.
Consultant forensic psychiatrist, Dr Frank Farnham, which is one of the founders of the clinic, outlines the four main types of stalkers, namely:
1. Ex-boyfriend who was upset
2. Applicants who are not competent
3. People are crazy about
4. Stalker who planned the savage acts of violence.
Farnham believes that there will be a lot of stalkers who respond positively to anti-depression medication, therapy and social skills training. In accordance with the results of a survey of crime in England, entitled British Crime Survey found there were 18.1 percent women and 9.4 percent of men aged 16-59 who admitted being followed.
"If we can deal with stalkers, we can save lives. There is great need of a coordinated national service can provide specialist advice and treatment," said Farnham.
"This is a resource that previously did not exist and will reduce the losses of victims, both for current and future, and to support clinicians and professionals who have been dabbling with the stalker and the current situation inidi England," said Dr. Rachel MacKenzie, a senior forensic psychologist in Melbourne.
While the chief executive of the Network for Surviving Stalking, Alexis Bowater said this nadalah innovative measures for treatment and rehabilitation of stalkers is essential if we want to stop life lost due to stalking.
