According to the report Cancer Research UK, smoking is the biggest cause of cancer, which has caused 23 percent of cancer cases in men and 15.6 percent of cancers in women. So unhealthy lifestyle should be avoided, including smoking, drinking alcohol and unhealthy eating patterns.
Unhealthy eating patterns, such as lack of fresh fruit and vegetables in the daily diet can also lead to various diseases. At least a less healthy diet, have the most impact is the main cause of overweight. The results of these reviews have been published in the British Journal of Cancer.
"Many people believe that cancer is a fate that has brought in a person's genes, making it difficult to avoid it. Based on much evidence, it can be concluded that about 40 percent of all cancers are caused by lifestyle. While the lifestyle itself is actually an option for each each person, "said Prof. Max Parkin, a lead author of the review are as reported from BBCNewsHealth, Wednesday (08/12/2011).
Good for men or women, the best advice to avoid cancer is to switch on a healthy lifestyle. Healthy lifestyle that can be recommended, among other things:
1. Quit smoking
2. Eat a healthy diet, which is more servings of fruits and vegetables
3. Stop drinking alcohol
4. Exercising regularly
It is not enough evidence that fruits and vegetables can prevent cancer directly. But at least by keeping the intake of fruit and vegetables will benefit directly is to make the body become more fresh.
"In addition, by eating fruits and vegetables in sufficient quantities can be spared from being overweight," said Prof. Parkin.
Various fruits and vegetables do contain antioxidants which can counteract free radicals. In total, 14 lifestyle and environmental factors such as a mix of residential and work environment, can lead to 134,000 cancer incidence in the UK every year. Some 100,000 or about 34 percent of cancers associated with smoking, alcohol, and overweight.
Approximately 1 in 25 cancers have been associated with this type of work, such as jobs that allow exposure to chemicals or asbestos. Some risk factors are also closely associated with certain types of cancer, such as the link cigarettes with lung cancer.
The results of reviews various studies indicate that other types of cancer such as breast cancer, nearly 10 risks from being overweight or obese. And for cancer of the esophagus or throat, half of the risk comes from eating too few fruits and vegetables.
While one-fifth of the risk of esophageal cancer is from alcohol. For gastric cancer, one-fifth of the risk caused by too much salt in the diet. Some cancers, like cancers of the mouth and throat, caused almost entirely by lifestyle.
Based on a review of the various results of these studies, it can be concluded that almost half of the causes of cancer is an unhealthy lifestyle. This is a modifiable risk factor, because the lifestyle is a choice each person. So should we follow a healthy lifestyle in order to avoid the various types of cancer.
