Urinalysis can reveal what has been eaten, how much has been taken and what illnesses they have.
"From the perspective of history, urinalysis (urine analysis) is one natural way to find out what happens in the body because many substances circulating in the body, including bacteria, yeast, excess protein and sugar, and finally into the urine," said Tomas Griebling, MD, MPH, vice chair of the department of urology at the University of Kansas as reported by WebMD, Tuesday (12/27/2011).
Urine is an important part of the process of disposal of the body. His job is to remove excess water and waste water-soluble after being filtered from the blood by the kidneys.
"Urine mainly serves to get rid of toxins or other things that will accumulate in the body and bad for the body," said Anthony Smith, MD, professor and chief of urology at the University of New Mexico.
When the urine is discolored or there is a strange odor that accompanies, the cause could be something dangerous. Perhaps the dinner menu or it could be a sign of more serious conditions such as infection or cancer.
Before watering, here are some changes that need to be observed and urine that can tell the health condition of the body.
Discoloration
1. Urine is yellow because of a pigment called urochrome, the color varies from pale yellow to dark yellow, depending on the concentration of urine. Urine is usually dark body markings are not drinking enough fluids.
"The body requires a certain amount of fluid in order to function, so the body will store fluids and urine will be very thick and concentrated. When that happens, change in urine color becomes darker," said Griebling.
2. If the urine is very pale, it means that drinking plenty of fluids or taking diuretics, drugs that force the body to remove excess water.
3. Changes in the unusual color of urine is not necessarily a sign of danger. Certain medications can turn urine bright green or blue, carrots can cause orange urine, vitamins can give a yellow hue and inherited disease called porphyria can add the color of wine. Red is usually a sign that there is blood in the urine, and a little blood alone can produce a dramatic color change.
4. Only a little blood in the urine can be signs of serious symptoms such as infection or cancer. If you see any blood and urine also looks cloudy, there is the possibility of infection has occurred.
Odor Changes
1. Urine usually does not have a very strong odor. If you smell something very spicy, there could be an infection or urinary stones that can cause a smell like ammonia. Diabetics may notice urine smells sweet because the sugar content of excess. First, the doctor will feel if the urine is really sweet to diagnose diabetes.
2. Some foods also can change the smell of urine. Asparagus is one of the most famous. Asparagus contains a sulfur compound called methyl mercaptan (the same compounds found in garlic and liquid skunk).
If you smell something after eating a plate of asparagus, it means the body has inherited the gene for an enzyme that breaks down mercaptan. Not everyone has this enzyme, and hence, not everyone can smell it.
How Often Need Urination
1. How often do need to dispose of urine can be an important health indicators such as color or odor of urine. Most people discard the urine about 6-8 times a day, but could be more or less depending on how much fluid you drink.
2. If you constantly feel the urge to urinate and not due to drinking excess fluid, the cause may include:
- Overactive bladder, caused by involuntary bladder muscle contractions
- Urinary tract infections
- Interstitial cystitis, a disease that causes the bladder wall becomes inflamed and irritated
- Neurological disease, including stroke and Parkinson's disease
- Diabetes
3. Rarely to the restroom can occur when there is a blockage or an infection or could be due to poor bathing habits. It is experienced by some people, especially teachers, surgeons and others who do not have much time to go toilet regularly throughout the day
4. Delaying urination can be a problem. Stretching and then contraction occurs repeatedly, until it can be stretched too great to be back into shape. Bladder overdistension can experience chronic, ie chronic emptying disorders.
