Pregnant Women are Her sleep snoring More Tiny baby

Grunting or snoring indicate a breathing disorder that reduces the quality of one's sleep. In pregnant women, snoring also affects the growth of the fetus in the womb so it tends to birth weight lower.

To prove it, a small-scale study conducted by Dr. Alison Fung from Melbourne's Mercy Hospital for Women. The study involved 41 pregnant women in the state of Victoria, 10 of which were reported by her husband's snoring during sleep.

Dr Fung who is an obstetrician to observe the growth of the fetus through ultrasonography (USG) and measure the baby's weight at birth. He then compared it with the habit of snoring experienced by the participants, based on reports of their husbands.

The analysis showed, the ten pregnant women who are always snoring when sleep finally gave birth to babies weighing an average 30 percent lower than normal. The same conditions experienced only by 6 of the 31 participants who did not snoring, or roughly only 20 percent.

These findings prove, the habit of snoring in pregnant women associated with fetal development and birth weight. However, Dr. Fung urged pregnant women not to be too worried because this finding remains to be investigated further.

"We proved that the tendency of snoring during pregnancy can inhibit the growth of the fetus, but this can not be confirmed," said Dr Fung who will present his findings in Australasian Sleep Conference in Sydney, as quoted from Ninemsn, Thursday (10/27/2011).

Snoring or snoring experienced by 20-35 per cent of pregnant women, who previously never even snoring. Believed, weight gain during pregnancy is pressed so that the respiratory muscles in the throat narrows and sounds when the air passed.

Although not all, most people will experience snoring Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) or stop breathing during sleep. According to the study, OSA causes the oxygen supply is not smooth and is believed to affect the growth of the fetus in the womb.
