Researchers found that bee venom can increase collagen, which make your skin youthful, elastic and reduce the impact of dangerous sun rays.
Face mask containing bee venom has been a trend among celebrities for years. Masks are usually only available in salons and spas.
Now the new face of the first treatment using bee venom have also been launched after a previously conducted research for 12 years. The research was conducted by Korean scientists Dr. Han Sang Mi for beauty companies in New Zealand, Manuka Doctor that has been available in stores in Holland & Barrett began last Monday.
The company claims this bee venom beauty treatment is the best alternative to replace Botox. This product is said to cause 'gentle tingling sensation' in the skin. By entering the bee venom, the body 'fooled' and lead to blood lead in areas which are exposed to toxins and stimulates the natural production of collagen and elastin, which keeps skin firm.
"It also increases the number of cells called keratinocytes (keratinocytes), which acts as a barrier against environmental factors such as bacteria, loss of water and sun damage," explained Dr. Han is a researcher at South Korea's National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, as reported Dailymail , Tuesday (29/11/2011).
Keratinocytes are cells in the upper layer of skin is needed to keep skin young, but the number of skin cells will further decrease the making cuts in the skin elasticity and the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.
And a purified bee venom has been shown to increase the number of keratinocytes, which in turn increases skin elasticity.
"I have done extensive research and clinical trials to prove that the purified bee venom may help the formation of collagen and prevent sun damage. Exposure to sunlight is one of the main causes of wrinkles, because the UV rays increase the levels of a protein that is responsible for degradation of collagen in skin, "explained Dr. Han.
According to Dr. Han, no bees was harmed in this treatment, because each toxin were collected by using a special device that keeps bees in order not to hurt.
"Extracted from bee venom using a secure process that ensures the life of bees, welfare and does not affect performance. A special glass surface (known as kolekter) placed along the gate of the nest and a weak electric current is run through the surface, which encourages bees stinging gently. Because bee sting surface, then it will not penetrate the stomach and the bees will remain intact. They will not die and did not hurt, "explained a spokesman for Holland and Barrett.
Bee venom that has been collected will then be dried, harvested and purified to remove substances that are not desirable as oil, dust and pollen.
Bee venom has been used in medical applications since ancient times. Bee venom also contains a protein called apamin which relaxes muscles and is used in the treatment of arthritis is called apitherapy, and to relieve the symptoms of muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis.
